Online Systems Insights: University of Belize & Moodle
Online systems have become a pillar in Belizean business since the COVID-19 epidemic. We now realize how important it is in our schools. The University of Belize has been dependent on Moodle to carry out its courses. A lot of other schools throTughout the country have been dependent on the platform and many have been experiencing extreme difficulty.
It is imperative that the country upholds its education standard during these times. With Moodle failing so often, students are complaining that they are unable to get their assignments done on time and have improper submissions. This can cause stress and demoralization to these students. Below we will list the disadvantages of Moodle and suggestions on how to rectify this issue.
Online Systems in Belize Schools
Disadvantages of Moodle
The first big issue is the fact that Moodle is not fully developed to cope with big projects. While it may be useful for colleges or universities of small to medium size, the system might not work efficiently with larger schools or serve as a great way to conduct all classes in a city.
The simplistic user interface appears dated. The lack of structure is a challenge, especially for new users. The raw interface makes the learning curve steep and creates a poor experience. Students and administrators struggle to find their way around complex settings.
For many organizations today, Moodle is the cornerstone of their learning program. From Moodle, they launch courses, administer quizzes, manage users, and much more. … Moodle is still very popular, but this is arguably driven because of the brand and the way that they have preferred partners implementing their platform.
Suggestions
- Build an interface custom to the school’s structure and with the features that are essential for the school.
- Build a proper examination and testing platform that will make assessments easier to conduct.
- The built interface must include a link to Zoom or other conferencing software.
- Upgrade servers of the school to avoid much downtime.
- Do a proper assessment of the usage of the platform within the school. UB has a large number of students and the server needs to adapt to that.
- The database needs to be accessible so it is good to have it hosted in the cloud other than locally. If it is hosted locally ensure that they are multiple backups.
